Snowflake Obsidian

Obsidian is widely distributed around the world and is found in recent and ancient volcanic flows mainly in Italy, Mexico, Scotland, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Utah and Idaho. Snowflake Obsidian (also known as the ‘book of laws stone’) is a shiny black glass-like stone with grey and white markings composed of cristobalite nodules in the obsidian. These lighter coloured splotches look like beautiful patterns of snowflakes against a striking black background. Native Americans considered Snowflake Obsidian jewellery to be a guardian and channel to the Great Spirit and protector of their culture. Snowflake Obsidian jewellery is also considered a powerful psychic talisman and is a semi-precious stone for the month of December and the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Dec 21-Jan 19).
