Russian Unakite
Russian Unakite was first discovered in the United States in the Unakas Mountains of North Carolina, from where it took its name. Unakite is an altered granite composed of pink orthoclase feldspar, green epidote, and generally colourless quartz. It comes in various shades of green and pink and is usually mottled in appearance. Russian Unakite is an attractive a salmon-pink feldspar, green epidote, and quartz mixture, although some stones can be an opaque coral or olive-green colour. Occasionally the gem may be called ‘Epidotised Granite’ or ‘Grandodiorite’, but it is Unakite that is the most commonly known name. Balancing, cleansing and detoxifying properties are attributed to Unakite jewellery and it is also a good stone for pregnancy with positive properties for the reproductive system. Russian Unakite is also a semi- precious gemstone for the zodiac sign of Gemini (May 22-June 21).
