The colour of Pearls ranges from black to white with delicate shades of cream, gray, blue, yellow, lavender, green, and even mauve in between. Cultured pearls can produced in virtually every colour of the rainbow. Pearls are defined by their translucence and lustre and the delicate play of surface colour called orient. The more perfectly spherical or droplike and the deeper its lustre, the greater a pearl’s value. Only those Pearls produced by molluscs whose shells are lined with mother-of-pearl are really fine specimens. Pearl and cultured pearl are birthstones for the zodiac sign Gemini: May 21 - June 21. Freshwater Pearl is the anniversary gemstone for the 1st year of marriage and Pearl is gemstone for the 12th and 30th year of marriage.
